Well I guess we have discussed the ‘Vince’ update to death and the push of the ‘brand’ in natural results but what is the driver of this????
Matt says its related to relevence and authority and that its good to have these established brands recognised, but of course here in the UK we are not only seeing that but also the corruption of our results by brands from other hemispheres as well.
I am alwaysa little cycnical about this type of discussion, firstly many of the big brands that are showing were not really listed in search previously and now some seem nailed to position one for generic search after coming from obscurity and secondly some results are now completely corrupt whereby you can make a county based search (more longtail) and get nothing but US and Australian results.
Matt distictly says none of the recent changes will influence the longtail but of course they do and significantly so.
Looking at these two points and analysing them its hard to see how either one of those improves the search experience and with some really generic terms there is clear evidence that blog spam is pushing reults too and most of that is coming from another hemisphere too.
As a searching person I have a clear idea of what I want, why would I prefer large brand orientated websites to be pushed in search above other lower budget companies, why are they more relevent?
Why when searching for a longtail search related to the UK County of Kent and homes do I get a full page one set of US websites, however the paid search sponsored results are the only two UK based results that are relevent on page 1.
Its hard to make sense of it, why in the UK are people deluged with Autralian websites in their results, is that the influence of the brand push coming in?
I saw Indonesian websites and phillipino websites on page one too.
Something is awry, the current Indian Blog spamming that is pushing a lot of generic search in the UK is also being confused with the Vince update, I am sure vince didn’t want this anomally to be happening but it is. Not only is is happening but most people are confusing this with the authority influence and big brand population (who are using blog spam) after watching Matts video.
I laugh loudly when I see the usual so called SEO experts preening out their little PR snippets, one read along the lines of – whenever there is a change in results people are complaining Google is broke when really they just lost their listings – thats just industry talk to try and imply they are not affected…. well maybe their blog spam is what is holding their clients in place!!
