Over Optimisation

I have a theory on over optimisation, it used to be difficult to go into over optimisation territory without either being inexperienced or unless you were determined to spam.

Things seem to have changed and it looks as though over optimisation is showing a different hand.
So convinced am I that this is becoming a serious issue that I am writing a new paper on the subject and will post it soon based on actual observation for corporate websites.

I have seen 3 corporates drop over the last few weeks after a period of instability, these sites all have the same techniques and the same deployment of content style. The websites would normally look as though they were bang on the money for high quality SEO practice with everything looking squeeky clean.

Now these sites are page 4 and eve a backlink check with proper tools does not show any convincing link spike or abuse, they are perhaps…. too optimised?

This is a question I have posed to Google just to see if I get a response that is helpful, I will publish my article anyways but over optimisation maybe just got a different threshold over the last few weeks and months. I know there is an algo change afoot that affects longtail but this is mainstream generic search terms in big websites that should already be enjoying brand push from Google.

Something is amiss and I am looking out for a bit more…
