Conservative MP Douglas Carswell – All Talk -
I had the brochure through about Douglas Carswell, he wants myself and my family to vote for him in the general election, in fact he wants my street and my town to do the same – Vote Carswell
The slogan is Douglas gets it done!!
Well actually Douglas Carswell does not get it done, he blows his own trumpet mostly and certainly goes through the motions but anything that is a little complicated or that requires more effort than a phone call or a newspaper article and Douglas Carswell returns to type as a politician.
If an old lady needs wheelchair access – Douglas Carswell gets it done!
If a youngster needs extra help at school – Douglas gets it done!
If you need a gas boiler – Douglas gets it done!
All can be done with a single letter or phone call and of course that is a good thing, but its superficial and not complicated, gets a good headline, looks compasionate, its everything that Douglas Carswell needs it to be to portray himself as a man of the people.
A meeting with Douglas will have him telling you what a maverick he is, how he bucks the system, how it was he almost single handedly that got rid of that self gratifying house speaker, its all quite a show, the trouble with Douglas though is that he is a champion of the done deal, he can rubber stamp for England!!
What he cannot do is go head to head with authority for real, he cannot take on people who are at a certain level of standing, councils yes, school governing bodies yes, but real authority – NO!
Now bear in mind that the main problem facing Essex in general but more pointedly this coastal peninsular is law and order, with Clacton fast becoming the drugs capital for the area (thanks to inept policing) and violent crime rising with no abatement, with detection rates high but conviction rates one of the lowest in the UK and with complaints against the police running at all time highs…. Well what you need is a local MP that has some muscle and some spirit to start applying pressure to law and order, to champion the rights of innocent people above criminals… now think of Douglas Carswell…. Actually no! Don’t think of Douglas Carswell because he does not have the stomach for it.
Douglas will of course tell you how he would champion and lobby for us to have a system like in America with local elected sherrifs but we all know that is never going to happen and he will never have to lobby people in power over it.
What Douglas doesn’t get done is anything that puts him at risk or at odds with the the establishment, with the politicians that run law and order (not that they are the least bit capable), the chain of command in the Essex police force, they know how to make Douglas turn the other way, they know how to fob him off and Douglas knows they call the shots so he pays these issues lots of lip service before dissapearing for cover.
Of course if you then press him over it then Douglas Carswell turns the tables, rather than press Essex Police he will move the goal posts and make sure you are then also standing on shifting sands, lets remember that whilst Douglas is a bit of a fraud on law and order he is not stupid, at the end of the day he is a politician, he knows how to survive and whilst he is on the podium he will accomplish all things easy – God Bless Douglas!!
Sadly I will be voting conservative since the other shmucks shouldn’t be left to run bingo let alone the country, its just a shame there is no real alternative to improve Britain for law and order – in the end its just the same old Human Rights politically correct brigade in a different colour.
and another thing, I know it’s a bit late but can anyone tell me why, after looking at D Carswell’s receipts and reading his quote: “Whenever I made a claim I asked not “is this within the rules?” Instead I always asked “can I justify this in public?” Well Douglas, since when can you justify a maximus loveseat in deep moss brushed linen cotton £630 plus armchair fabric protection £25.00???? Has he not heard of DFS like the rest of us????? Also can anyone tell me why large areas of his receipts have been blanked out or deleted even though they appear to have been reimbursed? I’m not suggesting that he has claimed for anything he should not have, but he still appears to have taken full advantage of his allowances which surely is at odds with the above statement. Does he not have a Tesco clubcard, I’m sure he would find it advantageous!!!!!!
We liked what you have to say, our experience of D Carswell is of a similar vein. We attended one of his famous clinics, waited two and a half hours,were told to keep it brief and when we did get to meet the great man(!!!) were made to feel like something nasty on the bottom of his shoe. He was arrogant, rude, completely uninterested, sat there with his arms folded throughout. In short he acted like you would expect a Tory caricature to act. Douglas Carswell has no interest in ordinary working class constituents. He may indeed have paid us more attention however, had we turned up with a photographer. The most impressive thing about our meeting was his handshake….. and only then because it was unbelievably wet. One would have thought that a man whose image is so contrived would have read a few books on empathy and body language. Even if we wanted to vote Tory in the next election we would never vote for this person.
Pretty insightful post. Never thought that it was this simple to disclose a diss-satisfaction with an MP, Carswell is not as popular as he thinks in Tendring thats for sure. I had spent a good deal of my time looking for a resource where I can post my experience with douglas carswell, somewhere that I could explain this subject clearly so I cannot wait to give my Carswell story here.

Well he liked the sound of his own voice (naturally) and did his best to intimidate other students during class discussions.
I enjoyed standing up to him though – funnily enough he never seemed to like that very much.
He also had this annoying Saffa accent.
Shame he only got a 2:1 at the end – he seemed convinced he would get a first!

He Carswell let my family down too, he was all for helping us, we even went to one of his so called clinics, waited ages and got 5 minutes, he said all the things we wanted to hear and then guess what…. no Douglas Carswell follow up, I emailed three times and still nothing, but what he will do is shout about the clinic for people to hear he is a good man interacting with the people but actually Carswell uses it just as press fodder!!

Thanks for your input on Douglas Carswell, there is nothing quite like a little Anglo Saxon to focus the opinion, would love to hear a fuller account about this Tory MP. He thinks that blogging is the new way to interact with the community, my guess is that its an easy way for Douglas Carswell to get his name in front of the constituents without having to use his face. Carswell probably gets somebody to manage the blog on his behalf and so being faceless and having profile means he can follow his path of pretence.

I went to Uni and did the same course as him and frankly the Douglas carswell is a ####.
yes its taken some time for somebody to stand up and write something about douglas carswell that is real and critical, usually its old ladies and selected disadvantaged but they are all people who should be helped anyway so he is doing nothing sensational, I say great blog and great post and you should shout as loud as you can to redress the balance, carswell is a tory party puppet who meddles in local issues to get the limelight.
Self opinionated Carswell – up himself and full of his own importance, he thinks he is a modern day robin hood but he is just a media boy and as shallow as the tendring planners and the council officials, there is a worrying smell about them all…..
I read elsewhere in your blog that Douglas Carswell was helping you, it seems that it was short lived??
Why does an MP linke Carswell go to the trouble of starting something that he simply cannot finish, its the usual story with MP’s they are after the limelight and carswell is no different, if there is a good newspaper headline then carswell is there, if its more then he will make excuses, he isnt fit and is not the man of the people.
I agree that Douglas Carswell is all about public relations, he never helped me because it was going to take more than a phone call or a letter. Douglas Carswell should be less up himself and in touch with people who need real help.
