Jason Gwillim – Essex Police
I guess this was ALWAYS the hidden agenda!!
After many months of tedious discussions it seems as though the primary function for Jason Gwillims employment has fulfilled itself in our case.
It all started so enthusiastically with lots of empathy, emails and telephone calls were then followed by face to face meetings between myself Mr Gwillim of Essex Police and my lovely wife Catherine. The aim was to get to the bottom of why Essex Police made so many mistakes in our daughters case, mistakes that resulted in a botched prosecution attempt as well as procedural mistakes that put people in danger.
When I first started to agitate this I also sought involvement from the MP Douglas Carswell who also showed great signs of ‘getting involved’ but also went off the radar very quickly found that it was actually going to take some effort on his part to get answers. In fact my last conversation with him centered on the fact he had waited for 3 months just for Essex Police to reply to his letter asking why Tim Newcomb had lied about our case.
I suspect that even local politicians toe the line when police Inspectors are well networked, lets face it the the police force higher command structure itself is just a line up of politicians ina different outfit.
I never heard from Tim Newcomb and nor did I expect to, there was never any excuse for him to lie to an MP, I think it was very amusing though on one of Mr Gwillims home visits where he informed me that any complaint against Tim Newcomb would not have an independent investigation but would be investigated by an internal body of policemen – thats pretty amusing really, the accused investigating themselves!!
No in the end the primary function of mr Gwillim was to try and pacify me but also to spoil progress to the point where the momentum died and the enthusiasm died too, to try and pursuade me that making any complaint against Tim Newcomb would be futile and at the same time to drag out the whole process until the timeframe for making any type of protest was gone.
In addition this whole saga of liaising with us to provide an open insight into the sorry saga has also been littered with mistakes, lots of apologies and in the end no actual credible information feedback, plenty of verbalised responses but nothing in black and white.
The whole point of embarking on this journey was so Jason Gwillim could – on behalf of Essex Police put our confidence back into those we entrust to protect us, to shed light on the mistakes and then to look at how those mistakes can be avoided in the future.
Lots of mistakes were identified, crime numbers not created, responses cancelled, mis-information, we spent hours and hours in meetings running through it all, even this process was just littered with errors by Essex Police, then when we finally get to the point where the report is ready …… Its is whitewashed !!!
Its is whitewashed because all we get are the recommendations that will put the procedures right and in an improved structure for Essex police, well that’s not what we were promised, at every stage we were promised a report outlining the actual mistakes made, we discussed these mistakes at length in meetings, everything was admitted verbally!!
But when asked for this information in writing then Jason Gwillim sidesteps and then refuses to provide it, that of course was always where Mr Gwillims loyalty laid, it was never about us or our daughter, it was only about frustrating us and sucking out the determination and energy that we had to agititate this series of gross errors and at the same time prevent the voice from going truly public.
Time and again I turned away press requests and one particular tabloid reporter called Vanessa is still hot to trot, right through this sorry process Essex Police have tripped over themselves again and again, its no wonder that the general public have lost faith and backs up the idea that the police force is now geared to be another tax gatherer raising money from motorists and controlled by police chiefs who are just politicians.
Of course they will sit back now and send a few hearty slaps on the backs to those who have done the deed, the job of dousing the flames of protest even when that protest is just.
I won’t bother with the ‘how can they sleep at night’ rhetoricals since they are not interested in real people nor do they care, I will though go about my day satisfied that I am a better person and a better man!!
