Well nobody said this was an easy ride, we are used to Google’s rollercoaster of course and once again we have seen a fairly bumpy update in the Algo. I believe it is based on linking and trust and we have seen shifts in both directions for clients.
Of course upwards shifts are met with enthusiasm and on that subject I searched this morning for childrens toys in Google and I am well pleased with the movement of Toys and Learning which has now moved onto page 1. The site also performs well for the other generic targets of ‘educational toys’ and ‘learning toys’ and all three generic terms were miles away from page one when I started three weeks back.
The ground in search is populated with major UK retail companies and so for a small independent company to break into this ground is great news. Will it be sticky?? Only time will tell but it does show you that anything is possible when you apply good quality SEO practice and common sense.
This of course is tempered by some slippage in one or two client sites, I have seen the ripple go through the rest of the SEO industry and all the Bull***t is about huge gains, it makes me laugh, nobody is willing to admit that there are also losses, they are all too afraid and yet we work in a volatile environment.
As somebody who is passionate about being honest I just feel there should be a little transparency, industry leaders and SEO Gurus should not be afraid to be straight and honest there are too many scammers around and so we should lead the way.
This is a fairly measurable ripple through the Google listings and across a large client base the gains are noticable but so are the losses, nothing has fallen to crisis level, there are just a few drops on generic terms that had been stable for some time.
The corporate clients though do not see any sort of blip, the link popularity that accrues naturally gives them an unfair edge, this natural link activity means that most large established websites just bob the wave.
