Well I like to see some entrepreneurial spirit in people and especially at an early stage in life however it can backfire a little…..
On returning from Milan a few days back I decided to be efficient and sort out my washing early, in fact as soon as I got my case in I emptied it and readied the washing, a sort of ‘modern man’ approach I guess. As I emptied my pockets (yes men can do that with their washing) I found a number of Euro notes and decided to put them in a pot I keep in the kitchen for when my boys want to get a drink or a bar of chocolate and I am not about.
However its a standing Joke now in our house that every lose bit of change goes into this pot, every coin that is discovered in the house anywhere goes into this pot and then is consumed by four permanently hungry and thirsty children. Of course in the last few weeks this has got a lot worse as they have discovered Motorcross with many ours spent practicing, this has made children who were seemingly bottomless pits for food now turned into ravenous mode.
I digress but its important, two days after coming back from Milan I came home from work and noticed a grin on their faces as I got into the kitchen, I knew they had been up to something but could not see what it was. Were I more switched on I would have seen the signs earlier…. but alas no it would take another day for it to fall into place.
This morning as I set off to work my children asked me if they could go into town this afternoon and then later on come into High Position and say hello, I said that was OK, as I left I asked them if they needed money for the bus – ‘No thanks, were sorted’ was the reply, I went to the car but was perplexed by the reply (they never have resources left that have not gone into food) so went back in and asked – ‘How come you have resources’? It was then that I noticed the odd coin laying around and that was unheard of, plus they had not asked me for anything for 2 days????
Oh thats OK Dad, we found 50 Euros in the pot and went to the post office on our bikes and changed it into pounds!!!!!!!!!
Now it all fell into place, my precious Euros that I put into the pot with the knowledge they were safe and not spendable were now Spent!!!
Little wonder they were smiling, so as I said I am all for the entrepreneurial spirit and especially in my children but that chip off the old block was an expensive one!!
