There are a number of interesting debates engaging the subject of domestic violence and the apathy by the police and the justice system towards violence against women.
The subject is getting well aired at the moment and I will continue to agitate it as long as I can whilst the new Domestic Violence website is getting established. Catherine is running the admin and the content and we intend to spend the next few months and years if thats what it takes getting the site established so it can highlight the woeful response and attitude shown by the police.
I just read an article on the Essex police website hailing the success of its campaign against anti social driving, operation Calypso was run alongside operation Lampoon, it so far has resulted in two fines for using mobile phones, five fines for not wearing seatbelts, plus countless hours of mobile speed traps.
In that same period there have been burglaries, assaults, murders and many other serious crimes which I recon are probably more credible as ‘anti social crimes’ , most of these are investigated retrospectively, maybe if there were more police on the streets, maybe if they responded fast to 999 calls and maybe if they were not spending too many hours wasting time then they could impact on the real crime that blights the district.
A look on the walls of any police station will show the Public relations exercise with the glossy posters but it is a hollow front, this is underlined by the statement to the local MP by Tim Newcomb where Mr Newcomb falsely claims that we dropped our assault complaints, I imagine that this was to hide the fact they had done so little and continue to allow such people to roam the streets.
