Trouble with being the boss is…..
When you are the boss you go to work even when you feel like crap, with a lost voice and a respiratory system that resembles the Meekong Delta in rainy season my two teleconferences today will be interesting.
Of course being a martyr with manflu sets a good example to my teams as they see somebody who is committed even when under the weather, it also allows me to raise my eyebrow if team members are pulling a sicky and are not that sick lol.

Maybe I should start to name and shame…..
The more I look at our industry the frustrated I am about companies taking marketing budget under the guise of etical SEO and search marketing but not actually delivering any good practice.
It is obvious that only a few agencies really do deliver and make the real effort to alter websites so they can be effective in search. Of course I understand that some CMS systems are very rigid and inflexible and that some corporate sites can take months even for small improvements to be implemented.

I-Crossing – Interesting Strategy
Well today we head up to Lowestoft to see Hoseasons after winning the SEO contract, its an interesting proposition as their previous agency failed to make any real headway. A look at the target keywords was an insight to an agency that was afraid to target real terms that people search for each month, I am sure I-Crossing had their motives for this but has ‘short city break apartments for rent’ ever been used as a search term, what about ‘country holiday cottages‘ and ‘luxury beach villas‘ two terms that are rarely searched for????

Childrens Toys
This is a subject I am quite passionate about, having 4 children myself and now with a grandchild I firmly believe that educational toys can speed up development and problem solving skills in children. For that reason I am now going to assist a new venture that offers the very toys that were once a part of my own childhood.
Its an exciting project, there are few sales and a flatline in visitors, virtually no search profile but a bucketload of really exciting learning toys. From an ant farm to a chemistry set and simple wooden toys aimed at stacking and balance this website has it all.

Funny how SEO agencies try and spam to success
I noticed some very interesting backlinks the other day when I analysed one of our so called competitors, SEO Positive. Advertising a very ethical service and claiming to do everything as a white hat agency it was particularly amusing to find that they have been scraping our client sites and posting content to domains that link back to their own website.
These domains also have links to their own client and some other spammy directories they are creating, of course this will find its way to Mr Cutts but for me its yet another example of people who bring our industry into disrepute!!
