Childrens Toys

Well my experiment with the website Toysandlearning.co.uk has taken a knock this morning and its possibly linked to the current Google tinkering, of course in theory there are no UK Caffeine influences yet so that particular algo update should have no effect but of course we do have the ‘Vince’ influence.

In short the site had made really great progress and I had been concentrating on three generic search terms, one of those is the term childrens toys and most of the competition was centred on large sites such as the ELC and Tesco, the market for childrens toys is obviously big and so I had no illusions as to the task with a small templated ecommerce website.

After moving onto page one for all three target terms I then got pulled onto other company stuff and left the guys improving copy and getting tracking sorted. The site slipped slightly for the term  childrens toys and then sat at position twelve whilst I was away on holiday.

This morning its really weird, my focus is back on the project after casually searching for the keyphrases and finding the site on page 9 in Internet Explorer but still in position 12 in Firefox.

I checked that I was not logged in to my Google account and tried again, still the same result, that means a slip of 7 pages overnight, now bearing in mind there has been no work in the last couple of weeks other than content strengthening it must be an external factor.

Toysandlearning.co.uk is a very small business and the site improvements are not carried out on a contract basis but more from a ‘lets see if the small guy can sit at the top table’ perspective and compete with  Tesco and ELC for toys and games. The site is a perfectly valid one and whilst not authoritative  or corporate is exactly what should be showing for this type of search, traditional toys and family games from a reputable but small seller.

I will dig around and make some changes and just see how it progresses, I am though a little perplexed by the differential in Firefox to I.E. with a bit of luck the serps are just mashing around at the moment and the site will drop back where it should be.

In the meantime I will turn my attention to linkbuilding.
